Many people were injured due to the US Steel Clairton plant in Pennsylvania, the US news network CBS News reported.
The first reports of the event were made shortly before 11am, local time.
Reportedly, at least 20 people were injured while American media are referring to a dead man.
The Alegeni County Ministry of Health has developed experts on the spot and monitors air quality.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Sapiro said the local government is in contact with local officials to break up the incident.
