The president of CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), Samir Xaud, said he vetoed the use of a red shirt for the Brazilian team. The leader, who took over in May the largest position of the entity, had what he called the “Emergency Meeting” with Nike to interrupt the production, which was already underway.

The news of the creation of the red uniform came in April, a month before the 41 -year -old Roraimense election. The clothes, which would be used at the 2026 World Cup, was quickly linked to a political issue. The traditional yellow shirt has been used in recent years as a symbol of the right, and red is historically associated with the left.
According to Xaud, his motivation in the interruption was not that.
“I was totally against red, but not for political ideology. It was for patriotism that I have for the flag. A lot of people took to the political side. I took to the side of Brazil. Blue, yellow, green and white are the colors of our flag and are the colors that have to be followed,” he said.
