Tebet goes to the Senate to talk about subsidies and incentives

The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, participates on Tuesday (19), at 10am, of public hearing at CAE (Commission of Economic Affairs) of the Senate to discuss subsidies and incentives granted by the Union.

The debate was made at the request of the committee chairman, Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), who filed an application and was approved by parliamentarians.

In the text, Calheiros points out that in 2023, subsidies totaled R $ 650 billion, equivalent to 6% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Twenty years earlier, in 2003, the percentage was 3%.

“Given the deterioration of the Brazilian fiscal framework, alternatives for fiscal stabilization are presented as urgent, except those that imply elevation of taxes and, consequently, losses to the national productive sector and the citizen,” says the request.

“One of the alternatives, therefore, to be examined and widely discussed, is precisely the gradual reduction of subsidies, according to constitutional determination.”

According to the senator, tax spending – revenue resignation – reached $ 519 billion last year. Credit subsidies, regarding cheaper credit operations, reached R $ 83 billion.

Financial subsidies, such as expenses with grants or forgiveness of debt, totaled R $ 44 billion.

Parliamentarians should question the minister about the efficiency of these benefits, as well as the gradual reduction plan of tax, credit and financial incentives.
