Bolsonaro asked Eduardo to spare Gilmar Mendes, says PF

Dialogues show a former president reporting conversations with STF and guiding son before US tariff announcement

Dialogues revealed by the PF (Federal Police) indicate that the former president (PL) informed his son, federal deputy (PL-SP), who had been talking to ministers of the Supreme Court (STF).

In the exchange of messages of June 27Bolsonaro directed his son to spare Minister Gilmar Mendes from criticism. According to the PF report, Eduardo had sent 3 images to his father (which were not recovered by the organization) and asked if he could share them. Bolsonaro replied, “Forget any criticism of Gilmar.” In the same conversation, the former president said: “I’ve been talking to some of the STF. All or almost all show concern for sanctions”.

The conversation is part of the report that led to the indictment of Jair and Eduardo Bolsonaro for attempting obstruction of trial in the investigation into the attempted coup d’état, underway at the Supreme Court.

According to the PF, the actions of Eduardo and the other investigated are directly targeted by democratic institutions, especially the STF and the National Congress, to submit them to personal interests. The report details that the group sought to coerce members of the judiciary and, more recently, the House and Senate, aiming to influence decisions for its own benefit.

The report was sent to Moraes and will go to the PGR (Attorney General’s Office). It will be up to the Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, to decide whether to report, request new steps, or request the filing of the case.
