A 28-year-old man, originally from Mali and with international protection status in Italy, was arrested Wednesday after setting a check-in zone at Terminal 1 at Malpensa airport in Milan.
According to Corriere Della Sera, the suspect had no departure card or passenger. It poured out a flammable liquid over the counter, set fire and destroyed monitors with a hammer. Passengers helped contain it, and one of them used an extinguisher to immobilize it until the police arrived.
Despite partial evacuation, air traffic remained virtually unchanged. The man, resident in Milan, had been denounced the day before for vandalizing a monster with a hammer. It will be present to the court in Bust Arsizio, accused of aggravated damage.
