The opposition KDH is against the draft amendment on gambling, which was presented by the Minister of Tourism and Sport Rudolf Huliak (independent). By canceling the gambling ban during Christmas, Great Friday or Public Holiday, this amendment mocks family values. “Hazard is one of the greatest hidden threats to Slovak families. Gambling has totally destructive consequences, takes the future, money and homes for children. It is a phenomenon that disrupts the family, destroys interpersonal relationships, causes household indebtedness, mental problems, sometimes even ends in tragedies, ”said opposition MP Marián Čaučík (KDH).

Opposition MP Jozef Hajko (KDH) recommended the government to look at the negative externalities that are harmful to people in Slovakia within the third consolidation package. One of them is gambling and lifting levies from Internet casinos and exchange rate sites or taxation of slot machines. With these measures, the state could receive approximately EUR 100 million. The government should also focus on the functioning of the Institute for the Regulation of gambling, which cannot collect fines for breaking the law, what According to him, the report of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic from July this year also confirmed the report. According to Hajk, the Institute should therefore pass the competence of the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic.
