Fate of iconic Swiss hotels

The traditional accommodation and recreational facility at the foot of the Bernese Alps has had more than 100 years of history and offers double rooms for 190 Swiss francs (about 200 euros – note ed.) Per night.

When Bellevue Au Lac opened in 1924, it was one of the last spectacular hotel complexes at the time of tourism and tourism in the Alpine country. However, this pearl Belle Époque (from French: a beautiful era – note ed.) The rooms are old and too small, so they can no longer satisfy the requirements of a rich clientele. As for wellness, services are at best average.

In the meantime, a similar fate managed to affect several hotels in the country. Only about a kilometer by the airline is a distant Parkhotel in Oberhofen. The device with 36 hotel rooms is currently yawning with emptiness.

The future of the traditional Swiss four -star hotel is likely to be its transformation into a building with luxury apartments. If the last minute – like Bellevue Au Lac – will not find an investor with a fat wallet who would be willing to revitalize and continue to operate.

Radical changes

When the centuries -old hotel in Oberhofen am Thunersee, Bellevue Au Lac, bought a real estate company from the United Arab Emirates and after a gentle reconstruction it reopened it, there were radical changes in the menu and in the offer of drinks.

The changes have started emotions among the locals. According to SRF Rundschau, the guests of the Association and Oberhofenčians prefer to avoid the hotel restaurant. They were angry that there was no alcohol on offer. They also banned pork in the kitchen.

According to the Swiss media, guests who pay 200 euros per night in the hotel have to change their own habits when enjoying the view of the lake from the restaurant terrace. Bacon with mixed eggs? Not even by chance. And as an aperitif? Just so soft beer.

Operator after the change of owner left

In Google reviews, the Swiss warns each other:

“Despite management statements in the local media, the hotel is after the change of Halal’s owner (meeting strict eating rules according to Islamic law Sharia – ed.).”

“You will be in vain looking for alcohol in any form, pork is also missing. The menu is just soaked poultry sausages.”

Many are hindered by no one informs them immediately after entering the restaurant that alcohol, tobacco and pork are taboo after the new one in Bellevue Au Lac.

Not for religion but for health

“We do not perform under another flag. We focus on healthy products, we do not proceed for religious reasons,” said the investor’s representative for SRF Rundschau. He claims that alcohol does not want to offer guests intentionally. “If someone wants to drink, we are not the right choice.”

New owners advise that the hotel, which currently has three stars, will soon play in another league. They promise new services, including the pool in the garden. What boss will the hotel employees work? This is not yet known. The current manager left the hotel.
