Mayor says the house will vote for Arthur Lira’s PL 1087/2025, which expands the income tax exemption range
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicans-PB), said on Monday (8.Set.2025) that the expansion of the income tax exemption range will be priority in the house. According to him, the commitment was reinforced in conversation with the minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, (PT).
The theme is treated as sensitive by the government and congress, as it involves relevant fiscal impact. The Planalto evaluates to edit a provisional measure if the project is proceeded to advance in a timely manner. The popular pressure by updating the IR table has grown in recent months in the face of the accumulated lag.
Motta stated that the House will vote, avoiding the need for the government to need to edit a provisional measure.

IR exemption is one of the main social flags of the Lula administration. The measure is expected to benefit millions of low -income workers, while making room for new negotiations on tax reform and fiscal policy. The proposal, however, needs to be approved by December to be valid in 2026.
