Many Brazilians may not know, but it is not youtuber’s name. It may be a shocking truth, especially dictated as soon as the opening of this text, but calm down, you will be able to overcome. The fact is that Davy Jones, in fact,, not to say mythological, that he would have existed at the time of the pirates, centuries ago.
In this sense, the Caribbean Pirates Film franchise can be slightly didactic to our context: there is something macabre in the legend of Davy Jones. It is this mythical and almost burlesque aura that Polish developer The Parasight has decided to use to build a game that oscillates between the exploration RPG and the warr’s frenzy of the most modern FPS.
Mind versus body
Here, we control the legendary Davy Jones, a bloodthirsty pirate who was the seven seas behind his archrival, the equally feared black beard. Unfortunately, and this is the initial premise of the game, it didn’t. In the ultimate battle, Blackbeard gets the best, Davy Jones is killed and his corpse is thrown into the depths of the ocean. From this opening, we no longer control Davy Jones. We began to control your body, beheaded. And we are at Locker, the buccaneira version of Beyond.
The strangeness of the game goes far beyond any journal of Johnny Depp. Davy x Jones separates us into two entities: Davy and Jones. One is the very talkative skull of the pirate, the other is its autonomous body, which is limited to repeating “Jones” when it is contradicted. From this clash of wills, there is a hilarious dynamic. One cannot “live” (like many quotes) without the other. The two are obsessed with the same goal: to escape the locker, return to the world of the living and destroy black beard. It is the good old story of revenge, seasoned with scenarios that now resemble Wandinha, sometimes remember (the same graphic engine helps in this similarity).
Davy x Jones’s strangeness manifests itself in every detail. We face enemies that are bouncing mannequins, we sailed in a pirate -smeared zombie whale hybrid, there is a pork head that does not stop talking about how died by Davy Jones, living barrels apparently manage all the services of this society and our guide is a neck chicken with an annoying child voice. The randomness dominates this universe with every second that explore.
The highlight of this insanity is Davy’s hyperactive voice actor, the sarcastic and sarcastic skull. In a way, he is the true protagonist, we are only the one who controls the curse of the puppet that his body has turned. However, there are several other exotic figures along the way and it is impossible to predict what can be found at the next corner or event.
At this point, The Parasight gives a very clear idea of what the player awaits when Davy X Jones is completed: gigantic and open scenarios, with optional content and a journey that extends through lands that are worthwhile. If the geography of the first areas is a clipping of the larger universe, we will be very well served as adventures outside the conventional.
DAVY X JONES FIGHT WITH Nail and Tooth
The skeleton of the game is complete, alternating moments of exploration and conversation with unusual characters with moments of nervous combat. Perhaps, in dealing with these two opposites, The Parasight can find it difficult to find its audience. Players accustomed to exploration RPGs who only want to enjoy the dream landscapes can feel pressured by the speed and aggressiveness of the fighting. On the other hand, players who expect frantic mechanics at all times can be bored with walks and many interactions that do not involve shooting or swords. For those who appreciate the two extremes, Davy x Jones is the perfect dish, where a tone serves as a breath for the other.
What we have then are confrontations that involve the calculated (or instinctive) administration of the two weapons, the skills that are being unlocked and the almost extreme verticality, which involves using a rope hook to approach or move away from opponents. It is a ballet of violence that works very well when the player enters the right pace, concluding with pleasurable finishing movements that restore life or result in additional resources, which will be used to evolve the character. Considering that enemies resurface after a while, it is possible, but not necessary, to kill them again to accelerate this evolution.
What Davy X Jones wants is that the player feels powerful, the terror of the seven seas, a brutal killer who dispatches his enemies throwing a coin to him and deciding his final destination, like a two submarine faces. The rescue points are well distributed, so not even death does not hold this avenging pirate for a long time.
The Parasight has a definitely unique title, despite its references. It subverts Disney’s caricatured pirate with the same strength and creativity that subverts Doomslayer’s killer testosterone, with strong doses of strangeness and anarchy. Davy x Jones is a title to buy now, taking advantage of the extremely low price and following the rise of this flibusteiro towards the surface.
