Arthritis is a disease that takes more than 100 forms and causes pain, inflammation and joint stiffness. Although it is often associated with older age, it can also affect young people. Dasha knows about this, whose diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis was determined only at the age of 27, writes about it.
The first problems occurred as early as 19 years when her eye swollen and hurt. The doctors prescribed her steroid drops, but the cause remained unclear. The difficulties were repeatedly returned, which was frustrating and demotivating. It was only a few years later, after severe hip pain and thanks to MRI, it has been discovered that it was a form of arthritis.
However, making a diagnosis did not mean relief for her, but rather a shock. She felt she was taking her dreams and possibilities to have a 27-year-old woman. Followed A period of stiffness, night pain and constant use of medicines without much effect. The exercise and running she loved have become almost impossible.
The turning point occurred only at the end of 2020 when It started with biological treatment. Her condition improved significantly, the pain subsided and could return to the run. In addition to drugs, she was also provided by a community of patients, where she found understanding, advice and feeling that she is not alone for the disease.
Daša says today that Arthritis is a lifelong diagnosis, but does not have to mean the end of active life. “Do not accept that the paralyzing pain is your new reality,” he tells other young patients. He believes that with appropriate treatment and support, despite the disease can be lived well and fully.
