The private funeral of the Italian designer, who died on Thursday (4) at the age of 91, takes place this Monday (8) in a village in the north of, where the fashion giant grew. The ceremony, with only 60 people, will start at 3:30 pm (10:30 am in Brasilia) in the church of San Martino, in the medieval locality of Rivalta, south of Milan, local press said. The Armani group insisted that the event will be strictly private.

Armani, owner of a luxury empire evaluated at billions of euros, died on Thursday at the age of 91. Over the weekend, almost 15,000 people said goodbye to the designer in the burning chapel open at the Armani group headquarters in Milan, one of his spokesmen told AFP.

In Rivalta, the outskirts of San Martino’s church were isolated “for security reasons and to ensure the confidentiality of the funeral,” said the local association responsible for castles in the region.

Armani’s body will be buried in the family chapel in this locality, where his mother Maria, her father Ugo and her brother Sergio are already resting. However, it was not clear if this would happen on Monday, as a local source said to AFP that he could be cremated elsewhere.

The designer was born in 1934 in Piacenza, a few kilometers from Rivalta, in a modest family of Armenian origin. Although he developed most of his career in Milan, he frequently visited Rivalta, where the local restaurant, Antica Locanda del Falco, keeps good memories of his visits, including the tastings of his tortelli plate.
