Although summer is almost over, the bathing time remains open in a vast majority of Portuguese beaches and, at least in the coming days, will continue to find the famous Berlin ball salespeople traveling the Areals. The price of this candy, however, varies from region to region. According to Portal Nit, it is on Quarteira Beach, in the Algarve, that are the cheapest in the country, costing only 1.50 euros each.
According to the same source, in the north it is rare to find this candy below the two euros. On the beach of Moledo, in Caminha, or at Apulia Beach, in Esposende, this is the most common value. In Oeiras, it also does not go down this level. Write the site that, in Costa da Caparica, Troia or Setúbal, the price rises to 2.50 euros, reaching 3.50 euros at Pêgo beach in Soltroia, the highest recorded value.
Already in the Algarve, the values lower again. Between Ancão, in Faro, and Manta Rota, in Vila Nova de Cacela, the price is around 2 euros. Add the publication that in Tavira Cabanas it is possible to pay 1.80 euros, but it is in quarter that the difference is higher: only 1.50 euros per ball.
Between tradition and innovation
It refers to the same source that the filling is the detail that distinguishes each seller. Many maintain traditional egg cream, while others bet on nutella, pistatus or jams. At Burgau Beach, André Carmo, responsible for the look, highlighted in statements that the balls that sell “are not very different from the others”, but “less greasy”.
According to the same source, in Cacela Velha, the seller Felismina maintains a tradition started in the 60s, with prices set in the 2 euros. In Quarteira, the value of 1.50 euros remains as a reference, becoming one of the main summer attractions for those looking for economic options.
Quarteira, family destination
According to the website dedicated to tourism, Algarve Portugal Tourism, Quarteira began as a fishing community before becoming in the 1960s into Balnear Estancia. Despite intense urbanization, it is still sought by Portuguese families, who find here accommodation and restoration more accessible than in the neighbors Vilamoura, Vale do Lobo or Quinta do Lago.
Explains the site that the beach is divided into six sections separated by jetts, all watched in summer and distinguished with blue flag. There is rental of sunshine and access for people with reduced mobility. Behind the Areal, Avenida Infante de Sagres is the scene of commerce, restoration and animation, reinforcing the fame of destination.
More than beach
According to the same source, the west end of the avenue welcomes the fish and fruit markets, supplied daily by local fishermen. It is in this scenario that the Berlin balls, sold at low prices, join the quarter identity as an economic, affordable and popular summer destination.
