The (Constitution and Justice Commission) of approved last Wednesday (3) the bill that establishes the national policy for the recovery of the vegetation and included in the text the creation of the Caatinga Fund to help finance biome preservation actions.
The creation of the instrument, inspired by the Amazonian’s bottom, was proposed by the amendment of Deputy Pedro Campos (PSB-PE) in the House Environment Commission. The deputy himself was a rapporteur at the CCJ of the bill, which returns to the Senate. There is already an articulation for the president (PT) to sanction the mechanism.
The purpose of the mechanism is to finance the recovery of degraded areas and combat desertification, as well as support sustainable production and traditional semiarid communities. Today, Caatinga occupies about 10% of the territory of the country, spreading through eight states of the Northeast and part of Minas Gerais.
“The fund will ensure transforming the richness of biodiversity into wealth to the population of the region, historically marked by drought and lack of infrastructure,” says Campos. “This project is a decisive step for fairer and more sustainable development.”
