On Sunday, September 7, a prominent cultural worker, university teacher, composer, conductor, diplomat and journalist Ján Szelepcsényi died at the age of 88 years of age. His son Robert confirmed the information about the death.
A native of Rajecké Teplice studied musicology at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University (FF UK), conducting and composition at the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava. He was a church of several amateur choirs (Lúčnica, choir of Slovak teachers), as well as conductor of domestic and foreign orchestras.
He composed music for 50 feature and documentary film and he is the author of a number of choral compositions. In the 1970s he organized cultural and music festivals in Bratislava, as a cultural summer and Bratislava musical festivities. He was also the author of several book publications.
Ján He also worked on diplomatic and academic land. In 1993 he became the first ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Turkey. After returning from the diplomatic mission, he became Vice -Rector of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, in 1997 the founding rector of the newly established University of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. In 1995 he became the holder of the Golden Double Cross for Merit for the Development and Promotion of Slovak Culture.
