Who is Nico González?

Nicolás “Nico” Iván González is an Argentine professional footballer who acts as a tip and striker. Currently, he defends Atletico Madrid, and is a frequent name in the Argentine national team. Born on April 6, 1998, in Belén de Escobar, he is known for his speed, dribbling skill and finishing capacity.

His professional career began at Argentines Juniors, a club where he graduated and stood out quickly. His performances in Argentine football caught the attention of Germany’s VFB Stuttgart, who hired him in 2018. In Europe, González continued his evolution, becoming a key piece for the German team, especially during the Bundesliga access campaign in the 2019-2020 season, in which he was the team’s top scorer.

In 2021, Nico González was transferred to Fiorentina, consolidating his career on the European scenario. At the Italian club, he became one of the leading offensive players, contributing to important goals and assists and being one of the team’s highlights in Serie A and in European competitions, such as Uefa Conference League, in which he reached two consecutive finals.

For the Argentine team, Nico González made his debut in 2019 and has since been an important part of the victorious cycle under the command of coach Lionel Scaloni. He was part of the cast that won the 2021 Copa America, held in Brazil, ending a long fast of titles for the main team.

Despite being summoned to the 2022 World Cup at Qatar, he was cut from the final list days before the tournament began due to a muscle injury. However, he continued to be called regularly after his recovery, participating in the World Cup qualifiers.
