Biggest fans in the country with more than 20% of Brazil declaring itself red-black (according to Globo data), Flamengo went to the United Nations (UN) to request official recognition as a nation.
– If we were a country, we would have the 36th largest population in the world. We are more than 45 million people united by the same flag, the same culture and the same feeling that crosses generations. Flamengo is not just a club, it is a nation – said Zico, in an official note released by the website of the club.
According to the text, the idea of the campaign is to recognize the red-black nation as the first “symbolic-cultural nation” of the planet and “engage the huge black man’s huge fans around a symbolic movement, which translates what is already reality: the cultural, social and emotional force of Flamengo, surpasses borders. Recognition by the UN, albeit in a symbolic character, would be the international validation of a phenomenon that is already manifest in Brazil and all over the world. ”
Flamengo provided a digital petition for the fans to participate directly in the campaign. The petition can be accessed here.
-From international protocol to stands, one thing is certain: the world is already red-black. The UN just has to confirm, ”he said.
Nation in the UN! 🌎
That’s right: the red-black nation wants to be recognized as the first symbolic-cultural nation of the world.
