After the family, terminal patient José Silva Barros, 80, was transferred on Thursday night (11/9) to the City of Sol Hospital (HSOL) in Ceilândia.

The transfer was made by after the elderly family complained about the medical discharge granted even with the man requiring palliative care.

Despite being in the UPA ward bed, the elderly did not receive care, according to the report of family members. “He had no assistance, but now at the City of Sol Hospital he is more or less assisted,” said the patient’s son, engineer José Ricardo Vidigal Barros, 41.

The DF Public Defender’s Office (DPDF) recommended to family members that the alleges of abuse be brought to the Federal District and Territories Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPDFT). “I am going to make a complaint to the MP for the mistreatment, because they burst my father’s arms,” said Vidigal, who said he will make a police report in the Civil Police, if necessary.

José Silva Barros’s state of health follows irreversible second diagnosis of doctors and the family also understands that the elderly are in a terminal state.

Abuse

Engineer José Ricardo Vidigal Barros, 41, said that since the first care, the medical team was not careful with their father, who has several injuries on the skin in the region of the back, arms and legs. “The people have judged his veins so much that his veins can no longer be bored, and he has several cuts on the skin. The worst injury is on the back. My father has a torn skin,” he said.

José Vidigal stressed that, last Saturday (6/9), the father would have received the news that the state of health is irreversible. The last medical intervention used would have been the use of antibiotics, which ended up not working. Despite their condition, the elderly would have received their third medical discharge from the Sobradinho II Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in less than two weeks.

After the doctor granted the third rise in a few days – because he understood that the retiree would be able to stay home – José Ricardo went to complain to the UPA board and the hospital unit team would have reconsider the measure, admitting the elderly hospitalized for another day, but the medical release would be active.

José Silva is still hospitalized at the health unit until the morning of Thursday (9/11), but can be discharged at any time.

In images assigned to MetropolisIt is possible to see the man moaning in pain because he is not receiving morphine at that time. According to the patient’s family, the doctor would have refused to give the elderly medication for central access, and removed oxygen that helped the retiree to breathe.

José Silva’s condition would have gotten worse after contracting the influenza virus, aggravated by severe pneumonia earlier this month, in addition to man being a carrier of diabetes. The elderly can no longer recognize any family member.

“Inhuman”

“My father needs a gastric probe and bladder, besides morphine in the vein to relieve pain. It’s inhuman what they are doing with him. How am I going to treat a person at home, if he is screaming in pain? How am I going to take care of him if I don’t know how to handle a probe?” Asked the engineer.

José Silva was discharged twice and his son believes that his health may have been aggravated by this fact. “We think he got worse for not being treated well, because he ended up getting bad after he had to go home,” he said.

Vidigal says that when his father entered the health unit for the first time, he was asked to sign a document proving that he was aware of the possible treatments. “When I joined my father, they said they had two options: intubate or palliative treatment,” he said.

José Ricardo stressed that his father’s case is not the only one registered with the health unit. “Several people who are hospitalized with the same problem. When they see that the person can no longer recover, they discard the person. They practically spawn patients in terminal state.”

The engineer revealed that he understands that the medical team cannot reverse his father’s health, but the family aims to receive better care. “We know that doctors have done what had to be done, but what we want is for my father to have dignity during his last days,” said Vidigal.

The patient’s relatives in a terminal state will seek support at the Brasilia Support Hospital (HAB) and if they can’t, they will go to court in search of a place in a ward bed.

Vidigal said that the family is looking for the father to be transferred “I am charging that they put my father in regulating these beds so that we can take him to the support hospital, or any other hospital that has a ward,” explained José Ricardo.

What the Iges says

The Institute of Strategic Health Management of the Federal District (IGES-DF), responsible for the Federal District UPA’s was called by Metropolis. Following the publication of the first report on the case, the institute manifested itself by means of a note, claiming that the patient “was attended and evaluated by medical team, received all the proper care and treatment within his health, being remedied the reason for hospitalization, with indication of discharge”.

Regarding the denunciation of abuse, IGES said that “the Sobradinho UPA vehemently repudiates any kind of violence and aggression against its users and reinforces that it values the reception and humanization individually with all patients seeking services in the unit”.

O Metropolis He went back to IGES-DF again this Friday (12/9) for more information about the transfer of the patient. The space remains open for manifestation.
