Impressive Monstera leaves can bring a unique atmosphere to the interior. It happens, however, that instead of characteristic holes they remain completely smooth. Where does this problem come from and how to make the plant delight again with its appearance? We explain.

Few people are aware of the fact that the characteristic Monstera leaves have their function. This adaptation to the environment from which this plant comes from. In tropical forests, access to light is difficultespecially in the lower layers of the ecosystem. For this reason, Monstera has developed leaves that have holes. Thanks to them, the sun’s rays can reach the shoots, which are located below. In addition, leaky leaves are less vulnerable to strong gusts of wind and damage associated with them.

It is worth remembering that not every monster produces leaky leaves. There are many species of this plant in the stores, and each of them may differ in appearance. The most popular variety with characteristic, cut leaves is Monstera Deliciosa – This is worth choosing it if we care about a spectacular, decorative habit.

Before we start to worry that our monster does not release leaky leaves, it is worth remembering that Young plants rarely produce them. Characteristic holes appear only on older leaves. So if we bought a young seedling, you need to be patient – first smaller, heart -shaped leaves will appear, and only with time larger and effectively cut out.

The key element of Monstera’s care is Appropriate light. Although he can manage in partial shade, in such conditions it grows more slowly and more difficult to produce decorative leaves. In turn, strong, direct rays of the sun can burn its delicate shoots and leaves, leaving brown spots.

The best place for Monster is a bright position with a distributed light – e.g. at the eastern window or deep in the well -lit room. In such conditions, the plant has the greatest chance to develop its characteristic, leaky leaves.
