Announcement caused a 2.1% drop in the company’s shares in the pre-market of this Monday
SAMR (State Administration for Market Regulation) of China announced on Monday (15.SET.2025) the opening of an investigation for violation of the country’s antitrust law by NVIDIA.
In, the agency said that the US company did not comply with the provisions established when it purchased Israeli Mellanox Technologies. SAMR added that it will open a deeper investigation into the case.
According to, the announcement may be strategic, to broaden the influence of the Popular Republic of China on commercial negotiations with the United States. The news agency also reported that the announcement led to a 2.1% drop in US chips’ shares in the pre-market of this Monday.
Nvidia President Jensen Huang has sought to maintain good relations with Beijing and has already made several visits to the country to demonstrate commitment to the Chinese market, even with the export restrictions imposed by Washington.
The Chinese Antitrust Law establishes fines of 1% to 10% on the value of annual sales of the investigated companies. The lawsuit against Nvidia was, when the US limited technology exports to about 140 Chinese companies, placing more than 100 of them on a restricted trade list.
