King Charles received Donald Trump on Wednesday, marking the beginning of the historic second state visit of the US President to the United Kingdom, which began with unprecedented pomp, intense security, technology investments and planned protests.

Trump and his wife Melania arrived at Windsor Castle, the world’s largest and oldest inhabited castle, home to the British monarchs family for almost 1,000 years. Royal red carpet treatment included a procession of carriages, gun greeds, a military flight and a luxurious banquet.

The United Kingdom states that this will be the largest military ceremonial reception for a registered state visit.

Trump, a declared royal fan, did not hide his satisfaction for not only being the first US leader, but also the first politician elected to be invited by a British monarch for two visits.

Upon arriving, he told reporters that he loves the United Kingdom. “It’s a very special place,” he said.

British Prime Minister Keir Strmer hopes to take advantage of this feeling in favor of the United Kingdom, while his government seeks to consolidate the “special relationship” between the two nations, deepen economic ties, ensure billions of dollars in investments, discuss tariffs, and press US president about Ukraine and Israel.

The visit has already resulted in a new technological pact between the two countries, with companies such as Microsoft, Nvidia, Google and Openai promising 31 billion pounds ($ 42 billion) in UK investments in the coming years, in areas such as AI, Quantum Computing and Civil Nuclear Energy.

Strmer also wants advances in tariff negotiations.

“Basically, I’m there too because of the trade. They want to see if they can refine the trade agreement a little,” Trump said as he left the White House towards the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

“They would like to see if they can get a slightly better deal, so we’ll talk to them.”
