At the age of 70 on Wednesday in Báčsky Petrovec in Serbian Vojvodina, a representative of Vojvodina Slovaks, journalist and journalist Katarína Melegová-Melichová died. During her lifetime she devoted herself to culture, education and maintaining Slovak identity in Serbia, reports TASR.

Melegová-Melichová was born on 30 October 1954 in Báčsky Petrovec. She worked in the Slovak editorial office of Novosadský Radio, in the weekly Voice of the People and led the youth magazine Embassy. She was also director of the House of Culture in Báčsky Petrovec and editor -in -chief of Radio Petrovec. It translated more than 200 Slovak and Czech films for Nový Sad. In the cultural and social area she worked as an author, editor, actress, reciter and screenwriter.

In 2009 she became the first woman Zvolená as the chairwoman of Matica slovenská in Serbia (MSS). Between 2014 and 2018, she was chair of the Executive Board of the National Council of the Slovak National Minority in Serbia and the founder and chairman of the Association of Slovak Local Media in Vojvodina.

She has won various awards for her work, including a letter of thanks to the President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič, Báčsky Petrovec (2014), the Golden Medal Matica slovenská (2015), the Memorial Medal of the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad (2016), Pro Cultur Slovac (2019) Awards or Milan Rastislav Štefánik (2023).
