Millions of people spend time in a coma every year. Unfortunately, some will never wake up again, others will be aware of consciousness, but they need lifelong care and some will recover completely. But what is it like to be in a coma? The question has encouraged more than 3,000 people in the Threads app to share their experience, writes.
“The only thing I remember is that I heard the nurses say to my mother, that I didn’t hear her, and I tried to tell her to hear her. I tried to scream, but I realized I couldn’t physically, and I panicked. I was mentally conscious, but in a physically dead body, ” She wrote Cece.
“Coma is not that bad. It is brutally slowly waking up, living dreams, hallucinations and an intense recovery process. Not to mention post -traumatic stress syndrome from waking up with a tubing in the throat and hands strapped to the hospital bed (not to pull out the tube) and in the moment without knowing why, ”commented Josh.
“I don’t remember anything but I can tell you that When I woke up, I was confused and angry, I wanted to go back. It was so calm, ” She said Josephine. “When I woke up, I remembered only darkness, no sounds, no shapes, nothing. Just an infinite black emptiness. No one knew where I was at that time, so they couldn’t visit me. I spent three days surrounded by anything other than black, ”Joyce explained.
“I felt like I was asleep. At the beginning I heard everything, but I couldn’t open my eyes. My father asked doctors if I died and I am She screamed in my head that I wasn’t dead to hear him. My family told me that Every time someone was crying next to me, I cried, although I had my eyes closed and couldn’t wake up, ” Anne replied.
Unfortunately, complete recovery has always not healed. “The coma itself was weightless. When my body began to wake up, it was like a dream. I heard the nurses to talk, music, and I had strange dreams in which I looked at myself from above. The recovery was difficult – I completely forgot my name, I had to learn to talk again, walk. Nine years later, I was completely disabled, ”Shay shared.
For some, this time was full of living dreams, including air accidents, extracorporeal experiences and meetings with deceased relatives. “I was in different places, at different time levels. I visited the Dalai Lama and Mother Teresa. I was on the plane that crashed over the ocean. I was thrown into space. Someone or something has been spiritually serious about me. But I persisted. It was like an endless bizarre dream. I would say ‘the other side’ is real, ‘ Jon said.
“My mother said she was in a place that she could only describe as a paradise. It was clear and calm. She also said it was the best rest ever experienced in her life,” She wrote Saysha. Some say that they have met God or other spiritual beings during this. “I saw a man in a tunic who asked me if I wanted to stay or leave,” She commented on Sandy.
“It was like a portal between life and death … I was stuck between the two worlds, I wanted to leave, but something always defended me. It was as if I was in a computer game and had to go through many tasks to win the game that was a life … but I would say that God is really real, ” described Daj. “When I was in a coma, I talked to my best friend who unfortunately died. I was in another world. Much more spiritual and more understanding,” Tionne wrote.
Others said that their whole experience was frightening. “I dreamed that I was in my friend’s cellar and they were doing medical experiments on me. The spiders hung from the ceiling and sometimes I heard doctors and my family,” approached Morgan while Michael said it was the worst five weeks of his life. “Endless nightmares that were repeated around. They played with me. I smoke. I was imprisoned. They’ve been stabbing me. I was in terrible car accidents and chasing me terrorists. It took years. I am not religious at all, but when I woke up, 1) it took me days until I was convinced it didn’t happen, 2) Nightmares continued for years, 3) I think I was in some purgatory, ”he added.
