When looking for a plant for your garden, which looks phenomenal, but at the same time does not require much attention, it is worth focusing on a specimen that is still little known in Poland. It has many different varieties and we can easily match the perfect plant to our garden arrangements. Find out what specimen we are talking about.
Hebe is a shrub that is distinguished not only by dense clumps of leaves, but also a variety of forms and colors. Because this plant may have leaves with many shades, including silver, green, purple or creamy delicate discoloration. This makes it a garden decoration not only during the period.
However, it creeps the most when he releases flowers. They can be pink, purple, blue or white and appear on the bush during the summer months. The plant itself usually grows up to about 60-90 cm high. However, we can find lower varieties that are suitable for growing in pots and higher, which will work in the garden.
Hebe looks great also in the rock gardens, when we juxtapose it with lavender or with signs. One of the most popular varieties of this specimen includes, for example, Hebe ‘Red Edge’, Hebe ‘Heartbreaker’, Hebe ‘Emerald Green’ and Hebe ‘Autumn Glory’.
Hebe is a good replacement for hydrangea, not only because the leaves of this plant can be an ornament outside of flowering, but also because it is A relatively easy specimen. However, we must take care of a few aspects so that the plant can fully enjoy us with its charm.
First of all, choose a good position for the specimen. Hebe develops best in sunny or slightly shaded places. In turn, when it comes to the ground, it should be permeable and moderately moist. At the same time, we must take care of drainage, because this plant tolerates water stasis badly, and its roots are susceptible to rot.

Due to this, we must also be careful at the specimen. Hebe does not like drying and excess moisture. So they should be fed with moderately and regularly water. However, in the spring and summer it is recommended to fertilize Hebe with preparations for decorative plants. Thanks to this, we will support the flowering of the specimen and strengthen the rolling of leaves.
It is worth adding that Hebe is a plant quite resistant to diseases and pests, so it is perfect as a specimen for beginner gardeners. Rarely appear on it aphids or powdery mildew, and with proper care this problem does not exist.
The only thing we should worry about is the winter period because Hebe is not a frost -resistant plant. Therefore, it should be protected with agrotextile or if it is grown in pots, move it to a bright and cool room.
