Dome has as its main themes democracy, fighting inequality and misinformation
Patrícia Campos Mello and Julia Chaib – Brazil barred the United States of the “Always Democracy” meeting held on the banks of the UN General Assembly in New York, next week.
The US was invited to last year’s meeting, designed by Brazil and Spain. This year, however, Americans are not among the 30 guests -between them, the organizers -Uruguay, Colombia and Chile, as well as Spain and Brazil -and nations such as Germany, Canada, France, Mexico, Norway, Kenya, Senegal, East Timor. A representative of the European Union, António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, should also be called.
According to an employee of the Brazilian government, only countries that are democratic are called, and not “can” invite a country that had an extremist turn and whose government is questioning Brazilian democracy and elections.
The dome has as its main themes democracy, fighting inequality and misinformation. President Lula attended a democracy meeting always in Chile in July. At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders issued a statement by reaffirming their commitment “to the defense of democracy, multilateralism, and the joint work to address the structural causes that undermine democratic institutions, their values and legitimacy”.
