President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took off this Sunday to New York where, next Tuesday (23), he talked at the opening of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). He also participates in meetings on environment, Palestine and democracy.
It will be the first time the petista will be in the same environment as US President Donald Trump since the Republican returned to the White House this year. The American has imposed 50% trade fares of Brazilian products exported to the US and has threatened with more sanctions due to the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months for attempted coup and other crimes.
Lula is the first to speak on the UN and, soon after in the podium, is Trump’s turn. It is possible that both are behind the scenes between speech and another.

The president must take advantage of the global UN hearing to give the American a message in speech. The idea is to defend sovereignty, democracy and multilateralism.
The tone to be used by the Brazilian should be, however, milder than that adopted in an electoral stage, avoiding direct attacks on the White House boss, despite the current crisis between the two countries. Lula must defend the recognition of the state of Palestine, a recurring theme in his speeches since the beginning of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. It should also reiterate the need for a peaceful solution for war in Ukraine, a position it has maintained since the beginning of the term.
Zelensky
The Brazilian government is interested in a bilateral meeting of Lula with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York next week, the political Broadcast found.

There are some main obstacles for the meeting to take place, although sources of the Brazilian government say that interest in the meeting is mutual – both by Ukraine, who made the request, and from Brazil. The first is that Zelensky, for safety reasons, shares few details about his agenda, which makes this definition difficult.
On the other hand, Brazil claims to have received about 30 requests for bilateral meetings. The definition should only occur by the Lula team from Sunday, 21, to Monday, 22.
