Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, dominated the F1 Azerbaijan GP, held this Sunday (21), at the Baku Street Circuit. The Dutchman started in front and led the race from start to finish, triumphing with good advantage over the runner -up, British George Russell of Mercedes. Completed the podium the Spanish Carlos Sainz of Williams.
Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, from Sauber, concluded the race in 11th position. It was therefore outside the scoring zone.
It was an atypical weekend for McLaren, which established ample dominance of the season and had the possibility of securing, seven stages in advance, the title of the World Cup. But the team had difficulties already in the definition of the grid, on a Saturday full of beats, and problems also the next day.
Leader of the World Pilot World, Australian Oscar Pastri, who had dropped ninth, hit the first lap. Already his teammate – and rival in the fight for the championship -, the Briton Lando Norris, started seventh and finished the race in seventh, getting six points.
Norris therefore arrived at 299 points. And it decreased – not as much as I would like, given the chance presented with Piistri’s abandonment – the advantage of the first place, parked in the 324. Verstappen began to add 255, in a still third place on the season’s classification board.
The next stage of F1, the Singapore GP, is scheduled for early October. The race will take place on the 5th, with a good chance that McLaren reestablish the order of 2025 and ensure the title of builders.
