PL pressure to join São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, and launching him to the presidency in 2026 has been generating discomfort in his current party, Republicans, who already claims compensation if he loses his main electoral asset. In states such as Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, the caption seeks to mark a position with pre-candidatures to the government and the Senate, signaling competition with the PL for key posts in these disputes.
RESERVED, Republicans leaders admit that the party’s goal is to make the PL give in spaces. A similar plot occurred in the 2022 elections, when Tarcisio’s own membership of Republicans was articulated by then -President Jair Bolsonaro as a compensation to the party. At the time, federal deputy Marcos Pereira (Republicans-SP), party president, had been threatening to remove support from Bolsonaro’s coalition for dissatisfaction with the fact that PL concentrates relevant candidacies.
In Sao Paulo, as Globo’s Newsletter was shown, Tarcísio himself evaluates the current deputy governor Felício Ramuth (PSD) to Republicans and launch him as a candidate for state succession in 2026. In parallel, Republicans began to encourage the candidacy of Sorocaba Mayor Rodrigo Manga.

In Rio, Republicans have been rejecting PL onslaught to compose Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and Governor Claudio Castro (PL), and tries to submit his own candidacy to the Senate. For now, the names are that of federal deputy Marcelo Crivella-author of the bill that will serve as the basis for the attempt to reduce penalties of the coup plot-and that of former deputy Clarissa Garotinho.

Another compensation claimed by Republicans is in Minas Gerais, where the party evaluates Senator Cleitinho Azevedo as a candidate for the government. Ally of Cleitinho, federal deputy Euclydes Pettersen (Republicans-MG) also articulates a place to the Senate.
Both have dialogued with Valdemar, who studies a composition in which the PL indicates the other senator chair. The design, however, does not appeal to the deputy governor of Minas, Mateus Simões (Novo), who will compete for the state executive and seek the support of pockets.
By the end of August, Valdemar said Tarcisio has already pledged, in conversations with party leaders, to migrate to the PL if he disputes the presidency in 2026. Days later, Pereira suggested that he could launch the governor of Sao Paulo as a candidate for the Planalto Palace by Republicans.

Despite Pereira’s speech, Bolsonaro and Tarcisio interlocutors claim that the governor has already waved, more than once, that migration to the PL is a matter of time.
Initially, Tarcisio had told Bolsonaro and allies that he would join the PL earlier this year. Bolsonaro’s sentence to 27 years in prison by the coup plot reinforced allies’ appeals so that the former president will formalize Tarcisio’s support and for the governor to officialize the party change.
