Decision occurs on the eve of the UN General Assembly, aligning the United Kingdom and Australia; Israel promises a firm answer to the wave of recognition

Portugal officially recognized the Palestinian state this Sunday, 21, after announcing during the week that would do so. “Portugal advocates the solution of two states as the only way to just and lasting peace,” said Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, according to the Portuguese government’s post on social network X.

The minister made the statement in New York in the United States on the eve of the UN General Assembly. Portugal joins Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, who also announced the recognition of the Palestinian State on Sunday. Other countries should follow the same line over the next week. France should make an official announcement in this regard on Monday, 22. Brazil recognizes the Palestinian state since 2010.

Following the announcements of Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that “there will be no Palestinian state” and will respond to the wave of recognition after return from the United States, where it will also be next week.
