Super Typhoon Ragasa, the world’s most powerful tropical cyclone this year, hit Hong Kong with hurricane strength winds and torrential rains on Wednesday (local time, still Tuesday in Brasilia), when the city closed and more than 700 flights were canceled.
The roads were deserted, and authorities instructed people to stay at home, while gigantic waves hit parts of the east and southern coast of the Asian financial center.
With winds of up to 200 km/h, Ragasa will arrive near the city in the coming hours, surrounding about 100km south of the densely populated territory.
