Gol, controlled by the Abra group, announced on Thursday night (25) the end of negotiations for a possible merger with Azul.
In a statement, the company reported that the controller Abra officially notified Azul about the closure of the negotiations, which began after the signing of a memorandum of understandings in.
The announcement is also valid for the companies announced in May 2024.
According to Gol, despite the initial willingness to advance, the discussions have not had progress in recent months due to the focus of Azul in its process of international restructuring. Abra stressed that the signing of the preliminary agreement occurred in a distinct scenario from the current one and, therefore, chose to end the conversations.
Still, the group stressed that it believes in the merits of a future business combination between the two companies and said it was open to resuming dialogues with different actors in the sector.
In a statement, he stated that he follows the decision and stressed that the Brazilian air sector remains growing, with an increase in demand for domestic and international flights.
The government pointed out that the country will continue to have three large airlines – Gol, Azul and Latam – ensuring competitiveness and more options for passengers.
