Argentine President Javier Milei has authorized the entry of US military personnel to perform a military exercise that will take place in the South American country.
Through a decree published on Tuesday (30), the leader allows the entry of foreign troops between October 20 and November 15 this year.
The Military Exercises – called “trident” – It should be performed at the Del Plata, Ushuaia and Puerto Belgrano and include the use of spaces for military, maritime and terrestrial instruction.
The decree also cites military exercise “Solidarity”which should be held between Argentina and Chile from October 6 to 10, in the Chilean city of Puerto Varas.
“The participation of the Argentine Republic in the” trident “exercise demonstrates its commitment to regional stability and international security, reinforcing its reputation as a partner, and will help standardize operating procedures, facilitating the participation of Argentine forces in future multinational operations,” the decree adds.
According to the publication, the goal is to absorb procedures, techniques and training tactics, improving the capacity for immediate response to the use of US technologies and technical support.
The Argentine Congress is responsible for granting this type of authorization, however, the Argentine leader’s decision stands out to the rule. The publication cites the “exceptional naturalness of the situation” that prevents the decision from following the procedures provided for in the Argentine Constitution.
The signing of the decree happens amid the invitation of, to visit the White House on October 14, while the Argentine leader seeks to ensure US billionaire support.
The Argentine Foreign Ministry called the meeting “a new opportunity to continue to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.”
