Preventing the oil industry is against the country, says Petrobras manager

The executive manager of Strategic Programs at PetrobrasWagner Victer, said this Thursday (9) that the idea of interrupting the production of oil because of the energy transition “it is a work against the country” that serves foreign interests.

“It is unacceptable that Brazil today falls into international agendas that are creating obstacles to the productivity and development of the Brazilian oil industry. Preventing the continuity and promotion of Brazil’s oil industry is a work against the country and fundamentally against the environment, because Brazil today is the country that produces oil with the least associated carbon among the major countries in the world”, he stated.

The declaration was made during the last day of the Official Engineering and Agronomy Week, an event promoted by Confea (Federal Engineering and Agronomy Council) and held in Serra, Espírito Santo.

“Not producing oil in Brazil will mean that this market will be occupied by other countries. It means that we will not have resources for research and development. It means closing the Campos, Espírito Santo and Santos Basins in the future, because they are not eternal”, highlighted Victer, appointed last year as a “super manager” of the state-owned company.

The executive stressed that he is not against the energy transition and the promotion of sustainability during production processes, but stated that the issue cannot undermine the country’s productivity and resources from oil.

“There is no environment if you don’t have jobs and economic development. We cannot refrain from discussing this. Brazil is responsible for just 1% of the world’s fossil emissions. Making a movement and speaking out against oil production serves foreign interests”, he concluded.
