Owner of five gold medals at the Olympic Games, former British cyclist Bradley Wiggins, 45, recounts in an autobiography to be released this month details of his cocaine addiction. He said he used the drug with support from the golden piece he received at the 2012 Olympics, held in London.

“One of my greatest moments was London 2012, and there I was, in a wardrobe, snorting cocaine on my gold medal, mocking my achievement, hating it for what I believed it had brought me”, says the former athlete, in an excerpt from the book published by The Times newspaper.

“It was the equivalent of shitting on someone’s grave, and at that moment I was shitting on my own. The gold medal, the Tour de France… All of that was dead to me. The person I had been in Paris and London was also dead to me,” he adds.

The Briton has eight Olympic medals: five golds, one silver and two bronzes, obtained between the 2000 editions, in Sydney, and in 2016, in Rio de Janeiro. He also won world titles and had one of his greatest achievements in the Tour de France, also in 2012 – hence the reference to Paris.

In 2013, Bradley Wiggins received the title of “sir”, granted by Queen Elizabeth II. The honorific treatment lje was given for his great achievements in sport.

Wiggins ended his career in the sport after the 2016 Olympic Games, with another gold. From then on, with his career over, the addiction gained strength.

Having been undergoing treatment for about a year, the former athlete spoke publicly about the problem five years ago. Now, in the biography, he deals with the subject in detail.
