The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, criticized the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, María Corina Machado, this Saturday (11), for resorting to the support of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, whom he called a “criminal”. Petro, who says that Israel is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, shared on his profile a 2018 letter written by Corina, addressing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Argentine president Mauricio Macri.

In the document, she requested international protection to confront the “Venezuelan criminal regime”, associated with drug trafficking and terrorism.
The Colombian president says, in his letter, that he does not understand the reasons for Corina to ask for help from a “criminal”, also stating that “in these years of genocide against which I fought, I saw that the extreme right-wing political groups in the world, those in tune with Hitler, became the only allies of the genocide and of Netanyahu”.
He questioned how a “genocide can help build peace in Venezuela”, also mentioning the US Navy’s attacks on vessels in the Caribbean.

The White House reported, at the time, that the targets were boats used in drug trafficking that occurred between Venezuela and the USA. Petro emphasizes that he does not have approval from the Trump administration due to the criticism he made about the North American country in relation to the lack of action in Gaza.
“Donald Trump has managed to distance himself a few centimeters from Netanyahu now, after humanity has taken a huge step forward, even in Colombia and Argentina, and this has made it possible to stop, for now, the genocide already in progress,” said Petro, in the publication.
