About 90% of the Venezuelan population rejects the demonic witch of ‘sayona’, says the president of Venezuela.
The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Madurocalled the opposition leader a “demonic witch” Maria Corina Machadowhich last Friday was awarded the Prize .
Without mentioning either Machado’s name or the award, the President said on Sunday that “around 90% of the population rejects the demonic witch of ‘Sayona‘”.
The Government frequently uses this expression, ‘sayona’, a vengeful spirit present in Venezuelan legends, to refer to the leader of the opposition.
Not Saturday, María Corina Machado praised the stance of the United Stateswhich he classified as a key factor in the isolation of the Venezuelan ruler, stressing that “the firm position” of President Donald Trump and the US Government “to dismantle the drug cartels completely changed the dynamic”.
The United States sent ships to the Caribbean Seaallegedly to combat drug trafficking through Venezuela. Washington also accuses Maduro of leading a cartel linked to drug trafficking.
“We want peace and we will have itbut a peace with freedom, with sovereignty”, replied Maduro.
The President ordered the formation of “militia brigades” of indigenous peoples of South America to defend “if necessary”, Venezuela, in the face of United States military movements in the Caribbean Sea, which Maduro described as a threat”
The head of state, who led an event in Caracas on Indigenous Resistance Day, stated that he “received letters from various indigenous peoples” of the Americas that are “willing to fight to defend the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela“.
Nicolás Maduro ordered the Orlando Romerocommander-in-chief of the Bolivarian Militia, parts of the Venezuelan armed forces, which “deepens and accelerates the expansion of the indigenous militia in all territories of the country”.
“If you want peace, prepare to achieve it with popular-military-police unity, with permanent national unity. The order is given: conquer peace, exercise permanent sovereignty in our territory and seas and defend the right to life”, added Maduro.
Not Saturday, María Corina Machado said that “the next prize will be freedom” of the country, after dedicating the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to his compatriots.
In a video she shared on social media, the former deputy stated that the award is “for those who never give up” and “they choose freedom as the path to peace, when everything pushes them towards hatred”.
Machado, who has remained in hiding for more than a year, also dedicated the award to those “who resist without hate, who endure hunger, fear and silence, but never stop believing”.
In an interview with the Argentine newspaper La Nación, the opposition leader stated that the award “has a very important impact” in the Caracas regime, which realized “that Maduro is absolutely isolated and his days are numbered”.
