The (-SP) and the president of , , spoke on Monday night (13) to calm tensions after the new episode of exchanging barbs between the two.
According to reports, this chapter has been closed for now. The understanding is that they have differences, but that it would be better to avoid public clashes.
The senator, who took the initiative to seek out the deputy, has also said that the right should focus on attacks on Lula, not against each other. To allies, he states that he has disagreements on the method with Eduardo, but that he understands his situation and will not fight with the ex-president’s son.
Despite this, allies believe that these differences should continue as long as there is uncertainty about the right-wing candidacy in 2026 — the real reason for the dispute between the former head of the Civil House of (PL) and his deputy son.
The expectation is that, when the former president makes a decision, his children will respect it, even if they disagree.
This time, the disagreement occurred because the president of the PP said, in an interview with Band on Sunday night, that Eduardo’s actions in the United States brought “very great damage” to the political group.
The former president’s son, in turn, retorted on social media that the loss would only be personal to the senator and that he himself would be making a sacrifice for his country.
“I have no doubt that there was an enormous personal detachment on your part. As for me, rest assured that I have not had and will not have any personal loss,” he said.
“You know the distance between what they say about us and reality. I never wanted to be anything other than what I am. With another way of seeing it, what interests me is also Brazil”, he added.
The backdrop to the discussion about tariff actions is the 2026 election, in which there is a dispute over the electoral succession of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) — under house arrest and sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison.
Eduardo, who is in the United States and has no plans to return to Brazil, started talking about running as a candidate and attacking initiatives to find successors to his father, as in the case of the (Republican) governor of .
He has been critical of the center, which supported his father’s government, and argues that the candidate should be Bolsonaro, who is ineligible. Eduardo has also insisted that the only way to avoid new sanctions from the Donald Trump government on authorities is through the approval of the amnesty project for those convicted of the January 8 coup attacks, including the former president.
Ciro, in turn, has publicly defended that today Tarcísio’s name is the most viable to defeat President Lula (PT) in his attempt for a fourth term. He is also mentioned as one of the possible names to occupy a possible vice position on the governor’s ticket, which is why Eduardo mentioned “personal plan”.
Since the imposition of trade tariffs on Brazil, Lula has improved in the polls and is now emerging as the favorite in the search for re-election — which has worried leaders of right-wing parties and which led Ciro to criticize the deputy’s performance in Sunday’s interview.
Faced with this new scenario, the governor of São Paulo began to feel discouraged about the possibility of going to Palácio do Planalto in recent weeks. Furthermore, according to aides, the former president’s son’s stance also discourages him from embarking on the venture — which he denies being interested in.
Tarcísio will only leave re-election to Palácio dos Bandeirantes if the former president asks him to run for president, according to allies.
There was, initially, an expectation that the former president and his family would be more open to discussing electoral succession as the end of the year approached.
But, convicted, imprisoned and with impaired health, Bolsonaro has not shown openness to these discussions, according to reports. The children have different ideas for the clan’s political future.
Today, the former president’s interlocutors believe that he will be open to discussing this possibility after Congress’ analysis of the amnesty or sentence reduction bill, which would increase the chance of guaranteeing him to remain under house arrest.
