Now is the perfect time to prepare your garden for the next season. One thing that needs to be done is snail control. These pests prepare for hibernation in autumn. Therefore, it is worth taking appropriate actions so as not to be surprised by the number of snails in the garden in spring. Fortunately, there is an easy, home method that will allow us to prevent this.
In autumn, snails are still active. On humid days, after rain, they begin to emerge from their hiding places. Then they look not only for food remains, but also for a suitable place to lay eggs. Therefore, it is worth taking appropriate actions now to prevent clusters of snails from appearing in our garden in spring.
Snails prefer to lay eggs in wet soil, hiding them between plant roots or under a layer of leaves. We must therefore take these places into account so that we do not have an unpleasant surprise next season.
Fortunately, we can deal with the problem using natural, home methods that do not require any chemicals. All you need to do is prepare a certain mixture yourself, which many experienced gardeners use every year.
To make it, we will need 1 liter of warm water, 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 2 tablespoons of salt and a few cloves of garlic. Mix all these ingredients together thoroughly and then pour the mixture into a spray bottle. The spray prepared in this way is applied directly to the soil where snails most often feed and where they could potentially lay eggs.
This treatment should be repeated every 2-3 dayspreferably shortly after sunset, because that’s when the snails come out to feed. This is an effective method because salt and soda will dry out snails and eggs laid by pests. Whereas Garlic, thanks to its strong smell, effectively repels adult individuals.

There are still other ways that will allow us to get rid of snails in an ecological way. We can use, for example, grapefruit. All you have to do is cut it in half, take out the pulp and place the halves skin side up on the beds.. Optionally, we can rub an old cutting board with grapefruit juice and place it where the snails appear. The fruit will attract and in the morning all we have to do is take our trap outside the garden.
It is also worth remembering to tidy up the garden in autumn, which will help reduce the snail population. To do this, you need to dig up the beds to bring the eggs to the surface, where they cool and dry. In addition, it is a good idea to remove the remains of leaves and plants that provide a natural hiding place for these pests.
