According to the club, the Cruzeiro player purposely squeezed the injured hand of defender Ivan Román, who is recovering from a fracture.
The announced this Thursday (16) that it will file an infringement notice with the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) against the attacker, for a gesture considered unfair during the Minas Gerais classic played on Wednesday night, at Arena MRV, for the Brazilian Championship. According to the club, the Cruzeiro player purposely squeezed the injured hand of defender Ivan Román, who is recovering from a fracture. The case will be taken to the Sports Court for analysis of possible aggression or unsportsmanlike conduct.
“We are filing an infraction notice with the STJD against the athlete Kaio Jorge. Aware that Ivan has a fracture in his hand, he did what he did. The court will analyze whether it was an aggression or conduct contrary to ethics and discipline”, said Atlético’s football executive, Paulo Bracks, in a statement.
Kaio Jorge had already been the center of attention in the classic, after being sent off for simulating with his hands that referee Paulo César Zanovelli da Silva was “stealing” the game — a gesture that generated great repercussion. Cruzeiro’s irritation arose after Atlético’s equalizer, in a corner contested by the celestial club, who claimed that the move should have resulted in a goal kick. During the match, Kaio had also been involved in another controversial move, when he hit Ivan Román with his elbow, which only earned him a yellow card. Atlético expressed its rejection of the striker’s attitude.
“We are not talking about the elbow, nor the gesture of robbery that generated the red card, but rather a cowardly and disloyal attitude towards a professional colleague. A player who claims a place in the Brazilian team cannot have an attitude like that”, added Bracks. The classic ended in a 1-1 draw, but the tense atmosphere on and off the field indicates that the rivalry between Atlético and Cruzeiro will continue to yield consequences in the courts as well.
