Embraer signs partnership to sell military freighter in India

Agreement with the Mahindra group expands cooperation for the production and maintenance of the C-390 Millennium in the country

This Friday (October 17, 2025) signed an agreement with the Mahindra Group, one of the largest industrial conglomerates in India, to promote military freighters in the country. The partnership is part of the Indian Air Force’s MTA (Medium Transport Aircraft) program.

The agreement deepens a memorandum of understanding signed in 2024 and establishes cooperation in areas such as industrialization, local assembly, maintenance and logistical support. The goal is to transform India into a regional hub for the production and maintenance of the C-390, in line with the policies “Make in India” e “Atmanirbhar Bharat”which encourage the country’s industrial self-sufficiency.

The announcement was made in New Delhi during the Aerocity complex, an event attended by the Vice President of Brazil, (PSB), and the Minister of Defense, .

The unit will be the company’s operations center in the country, bringing together teams from the areas of commercial, executive aviation, defense and urban air mobility.

The C-390 Millennium is Embraer’s main military product. Launched in 2019, the freighter is used by the air forces of Brazil, Portugal and Hungary.

The model has the capacity to carry 26 tons of payload, flies at up to 870 km/h and can operate on unpaved runways. The aircraft performs missions of transporting troops and equipment, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and in-flight refueling.

The main competitor of the C-390 is the , manufactured by the North American company, used by several air forces of the (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). Embraer is betting on Millennium’s superior performance and lower operating costs to expand its presence in the military alliance.

INDIAN MARKET

The rapprochement between Embraer and Mahindra reinforces , the 3rd largest aviation market in the world.

In addition to the defense sector, the company is also investing in the sale of commercial jets – especially the model, which accommodates up to 146 passengers – to local companies such as and .

Currently, the Brazilian company has around 50 planes in operation in the country, a discreet presence compared to markets such as China and Japan.
