The President spoke at an event in Rio that the current legislative composition is the lowest in history; President of the Chamber says that tranquility is needed to avoid falling into extremism
The President of the Chamber of Deputies (Republicanos-PB) commented on the criticism made by the president (PT) of the National Congress this Wednesday (15). During an event in Rio de Janeiro, Lula stated that Congress “has never had such a low level”. “When the president referred to Congress, I believe his criticism was more directed at the extreme right. If, however, he wanted to refer to Congress as a whole, I completely disagree, because it was a Congress that approved almost everything the government sent, with modifications, but which was mainly on the side of the government’s economic agenda”, said Motta in an interview with GloboNews.
According to the President of the Chamber, tranquility is needed to avoid falling into extremism. “Regarding the president’s statements, we have seen parliamentarians criticize the government very vehemently on several occasions. I think that this polarization, because the president comes from a left-wing party and because there is a very fierce extreme right, has caused criticism to go beyond the tone in several episodes”, he assessed. Lula’s statements took place at an event celebrating Teachers’ Day, while the president was speaking.
“Hugo (Motta) is the president of this Congress and he knows that he has never had the low level of quality he has now. That extreme right that was elected in 2022 is the worst thing there is. We cannot have a president who denies that Covid-19 existed, denies the vaccine, distributes medicine that is worthless, that has a Minister of Health who doesn’t understand anything about health”, said the president, at the time. When Hugo Motta was invited to speak at the event, he was booed by the audience made up of education professionals. The audience also chanted “no amnesty”, in reference to the bill being processed in the Chamber.
During his speech, he cited the approval of the National Education System and the National Education Plan, the text of which arrived at the House this Tuesday, 14th. Motta has focused on basic education agendas after the wear and tear caused by episodes such as the Blindagem PEC.
