“I don’t plan on giving them money”: young man inherited 840 thousand euros and two houses and refuses to share with his parents

Receiving an inheritance is usually a reason for joy and, sometimes, for sharing. But it’s not always like that. An 18-year-old girl from the United States decided not to give a cent of the fortune she inherited from her parents, claiming to have been a victim of mistreatment and family exclusion.

The story was revealed by several international publications and, according to Notícias Trabajo, a Spanish website specializing in labor matters, it originated from an outburst shared by herself on the social network Reddit.

The young woman inherited 840 thousand euros and two houses from her grandparents, an amount that completely changed her life. However, instead of sharing the wealth with her mother and stepfather, as they expected, she made it clear that she “does not plan on sharing” the money with those who, for years, “treated her badly and made her feel unwanted”.

The origin of family conflict

According to Notícias Trabajo, the young woman explained that her 38-year-old mother married a 50-year-old man who already had three children from a previous relationship. Over time, the couple had two more children, forming a new family where she never felt integrated.

“They never treated me well at home,” he wrote in the publication. As the years passed, the relationship deteriorated further.

The stepfather was arrested and, after this episode, the family faced financial difficulties. “We lived with the bare minimum, we only had enough to eat and pay for the basics,” he described.

Despite the difficult context, the young woman claims that her parents’ behavior never changed. She felt ignored, the target of constant criticism and without the emotional support she expected from her mother.

An inheritance that changed everything

The situation took a turn when his grandparents, with whom he always maintained a close relationship, passed away and left him the entire inheritance.

According to Notícias Trabajo, the parents were surprised to learn that the young woman had received almost one million euros and two properties, and asked for financial help.

But the answer was immediate: “I don’t plan on giving them money. They never worried about me, now I’m not going to support anyone.” The decision divided opinions on social media, with some users praising its firmness and others considering the attitude “too cold”.

The moral debate on social media

The case generated thousands of comments on platforms such as Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), where many internet users reflected on the extent to which someone should feel obligated to help family members who mistreated them.

According to , the young woman reaffirmed that the decision is not about revenge, but rather about the desire to protect herself. “I want to use this money to build my life, away from people who hurt me,” he said.
