The leader of the PL in Deputies, (RJ), decided to join the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) that investigates fraud at the National Social Security Institute () after a series of government victories. Sóstenes arrives as a substitute in the bloc of which his party is part, along with União Brasil, PP, MDB, PSD, Republicans, Podemos and the PSDB-Cidadania federation.
“I joined to contribute and collaborate with the beautiful work of leader Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) in the Senate, so that we can win the applications again in the coming weeks”, said the deputy to the Estadão.
Reinforced by the INSS CPI, the Lula government managed to reverse the scenario that gave the presidency and the committee’s rapporteurship to the opposition and guarantee a majority in all the most controversial votes.
The coordination of the government base ensured that José Ferreira da Silva – Lula’s brother known as Frei Chico – was not summoned and prevented the arrest of the president of the National Union of Retirees, Pensioners and Elderly People (Sindnapi) Milton Baptista de Souza Filho, known as Milton Cavalo. Sindnapi is the union to which Frei Chico is linked.
From the perspective of the Bolsonaro opposition, the government’s work with centrist allies constitutes a “shield” against figures who would be important to contribute to the investigations that investigate the fraudulent scheme of unauthorized discounts in associations. For them, Centrão’s successive victories are due to the group’s “physiologism”.
This Friday (17), after visiting the former president (PL) at his home in Brasília, where he is under house arrest for failing to comply with precautionary measures from the (STF), Sóstenes told the press that he “trusts a lot in Rogério Marinho’s work to reorganize the base again”, and that the opposition will once again present a new request to summon Frente Chico.
Charge for more articulation
In the conversation with Sóstenes, Bolsonaro demanded greater coordination between presidents of right-wing parties against Lula, with an eye on the 2026 elections. “Bolsonaro understands that it is more necessary – and he will talk to Valdemar next week (about this) – for party presidents to be meeting more frequently so that we can have even more positive results, to face the current government, especially with a view to the 2026 election”, he stated. the leader of the PL in the Chamber to the press upon leaving the visit to the former president.
In September, União Brasil and Progressistas (PP) announced the official disembarkation of the Lula government, anticipating the articulation of a competitive candidacy on the right to defeat the PT in 2026. The governors of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União), and of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior (PSD), are considered to lead this movement, but the choice of name is still has not been decided.
Sóstenes says that Bolsonaro asked him how the articulation for the January 8th amnesty is going. The topic is of interest to the former president, who may benefit from the text that the Bolsonarists are trying, still unsuccessfully, to approve in the Chamber, in order to pardon all those investigated for undemocratic acts since 2019.
Sóstenes detailed the following panorama: federal deputy Paulinho da Força (Solidariedade-SP), rapporteur of the project, awaits the text to be returned by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), on Tuesday, with the commitment of the president of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), to put it up for voting. If the proposal returned by the organizers provides for the reduction of sentences – and not the “broad, general and unrestricted” amnesty, as the Bolsonarists demand -, the PL bench will present an emphasis on expanding pardon.
