The historian and Eastern Europe expert Karl Schlögel was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade at the end of the Frankfurt Book Fair. He was one of the first to warn against Vladimir Putin’s aggressive expansion policy, according to the certificate that the 77-year-old received in Frankfurt’s Paulskirche. “His warning to us: Without a free Ukraine there can be no peace in Europe.”
