This is how my grandmother ensured her prosperity. The ritual requires baking soda

Superstitions and rituals have their roots in pagan beliefs — not so long ago, many of them were part of life, especially in villages. My grandmother knew rituals to ward off bad luck, shed spells and attract good luck, and she learned about them from her mother and great-grandmother. This is how this knowledge was passed on in many homes. One of these superstitions was about the need to use baking soda.

This product is quite a young “invention”. In Poland, baking soda gained popularity at the end of the 20th century, but after the war it was also sometimes used. Mass production began after 1957, so the Slavs did not have a chance to use it directly. But In recent decades, this product has replaced, among others, salt in rituals.

Salt was sprinkled in the corners and a line was drawn at the threshold of the house to protect the inhabitants. In the south of Poland, baking soda was sometimes also used for this purpose, especially when its popularity flourished. The similar consistency and appearance led to the conclusion that it had the same effect.

Lavender has had a calming and soothing effect for centuries. It helped us fall asleep and made our lives “better”; it was often put under beds or placed at the doorstep of the house. We will need one small twig, which we will put in a cotton bag, then add a teaspoon of soda, which is supposed to have a protective effect.

Lavender and baking soda are supposed to bring prosperity – calming and protecting. Such a bag should be placed at home, e.g. near the door or window. It is important that the bag has a tight weave so that the soda does not spill out. However, remember to treat superstitions with a pinch of salt – they may have a grain of truth in them, but they are never 100% certain.
