Mid-afternoon October 6, 1992 SIC was born. Years later, emerged to SIC News, on January 8, 2001. Once again, Francisco Pinto Balsemão innovated, opening the way for information channels. Journalists, stars and other SIC’s were born at SICsuch as SIC Mulher, SIC Esperança, SIC Radical, SIC K, SIC Caras, SIC Novelas and SIC Internacional.

Mid-afternoon October 6, 1992 SIC was born.

But before becoming a SIC, it was a dream that Dr. Balsemão anticipated for students, at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Many of the collaborators he had at SIC listened to him draw it in classes in the subject “Media Change in Developed Countries and its consequences in Portugal”.

SIC was born as another cry of freedoma concept that has always guided his journey. It helped to consolidate the young democracy that came of age that year.

A SIC broke stereotypes, gave Portugal a voicefrom far and wide, who had never been included or found in the equation that was the real country, like the people from the interior and the immigrants.

Fulfilling the project designed by the businessman and journalist, another journalist, Emídio Rangel, handled the baton of this young orchestra full of energy.

From SIC emerged the SIC News which made itself known on January 8, 2001. Once again, Francisco Pinto Balsemão, innovated by opening the way for information channels.

A universe that only came to fruition because the freedom of the press was the mantra of Francisco Pinto Balsemão’s life.
