Champions: Alisson Santos comes off the bench to give Sporting victory against Marseille

Last minute

Playing at home against the leader of the French championship, Rui Borges’ team knew that the mission would not be easy. And Sporting even started to lose, but goals from Geny Catamo and Alisson Santos, in the last 20 minutes, left Alvalade with three points.

Alisson Santos came off the bench to guarantee Sporting’s 2-1 victory, in Alvalade, against Marseille, this Wednesday. The French even started the match ahead, but the ‘lions’, with a numerical advantage since the first half, turned the result around.

Even before the teams get on José Alvalade’s pitch, the statistics already predicted that it would be a very balanced match.

Internally, both teams remain at the top of their respective championships.

In the current Champions League campaign, the two clubs continued until the final whistle with very similar statistics.

A victory and a defeat for both sidesfive goals scored for both teams and the French had only one goal conceded.

Inside the field, Sporting was the first team to create danger, but two shots from Igor Paixão before the 10th minute left the team of the house in direction.

But, In the 14th minute, again through the virtuoso Brazilian striker, the outsiders took the lead.

After a long pass of Aubameyang, the winger drove inside and fired from mid-range into the back of the goal defended by Rui Silva.

Until the end of the first 45 minutes, the Marseillais remained on top of the match, but beyond regulation time they were faced with a setback.

Emerson Palmieri simulated a foul inside the Sporting area and received a second yellow card and, consequently, a red card.

Catamo opened the book and Alisson closed the accounts

In the second half, and benefiting from playing with one more man, Rui Borges’ team had the French club on the ropes from the first minute.

There were some dangerous moves, such as Quenda’s run, at 58, which only ended with a shot at the post, and the goal seemed not to be far away.

It arrived at 68 minutes. Geny Catamo took to the field and, following Pote’s pass, did not tremble in front of the rival goalkeeper, Gerónimo Rulli.

If the home club was already on top, the goal only boosted morale. In the 80th minute, Alisson Santo entered the field and, six minutes later, left his mark.

As Leo fans are accustomed to, the Brazilian, who had already scored against Kairat in the opening round, received the ball on the left, brought it into the middle and, from the edge of the area, shot for the victory.

The credit goes entirely to the former UD Leiria, but the ball still deflected off Pavard before shaking the net.
