Trump administration sanctions Russian oil companies and pushes for ceasefire in Ukraine

The Trump administration imposed new sanctions this Wednesday (22) on Russia’s two largest oil companies, using as justification “Russia’s lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine.”

The US Treasury Department said the new sanctions will harm the Kremlin’s ability to raise funds to finance its war against Ukraine.

“Now is the time to stop the killings and establish an immediate ceasefire,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, announcing the sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil.
