On the last day of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup finals, in Jakarta, Indonesia, Flávia Saraiva, 26, was one step away from the podium on the balance beam. The first to perform in the early hours of this Saturday (25), the Brazilian athlete scored 13,900 points and finished in fourth place. The gold went to Zhang Qingying, from China, with 15,166. Kaylia Nemour, from Algeria, took silver (14.300), and Japan’s Aiko Sugihara took bronze (14.166).
In the qualifiers, Flávia had been second, with a score of 13.833. In the decision, she increased the difficulty level to 5.7 and scored 8.200 in the execution, an adjustment that kept her in the fight until the last competitor, but it was not enough to overcome the podium cut-off score.
A reference on the device since the 2014 Youth Olympic Games and an Olympic finalist in Rio-2016, Flávia is considered a reference by the International Gymnastics Federation in the execution of “ring” jumps, among the most demanding in the code.
