Moraes authorizes Cid to go to his grandmother’s party and ignores the request to end his sentence

The minister Alexandre Moraesfrom the STF (Supreme Federal Court), authorized, this Friday (24) the lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid to go to his grandmother’s 90th birthday.

Grandmother’s birthday will be held on a Saturday, November 1st, in Sobradinho, an administrative region of the Federal District. Cid will be able to go to the event from 6pm.

Among the precautionary measures, the lieutenant colonel must maintain the use of an electronic ankle bracelet. In the same decision, Moraes does not mention the request for termination of the sentence.

When asking for the sentence to be extinguished, Cid’s lawyers argue that, after conviction, there is no longer any justification for maintaining these measures, which would be exceptional in nature and would only apply as long as there is a risk to the investigation or criminal investigation.

Mauro Cid was sentenced to two years in open prison in the coup plot case. The soldier had a plea bargain in the same case.

On Wednesday (23), the STF published the ruling on the trial of the core of the coup plot – in which former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

With the publication of the ruling, a five-day period was opened for the defenses to present appeals about the judgment. The deadline expires on Monday (27).
