New tourist signage, rest areas for motorcyclists and motorhomers and requalification of landmarks and verges are promises from Pinto Luz for a road that is now celebrating 80 years.
At a time when we are celebrating 80 years of Miguel Pinto Luz, the minister of Infrastructures and Housing, became the most iconic road in the country. From Chaves to Faro, more than 700 kilometers were covered listening to mayors, identifying problems and announcing interventions for a road that many compare to the American one Route 66.
The idea came up in the summer, but was postponed until after the local councils. Still, with a campaign-sounding slogan, the minister responsible for roads left the office for four days with the idea of “see to do”.
The route along the road that crosses the country included stops at 35 counties and 11 districts through which Nacional 2 passes.
There are ten million to requalify 43 kilometers in a section between Abrantes and Ponte de Sôr and will be repaired separately, in São Brás de Alportel, which was destroyed by rain in winter.
The connection to Via do Infante will also be improved.
The x-ray is done and the mandated for an exhaustive survey of what will need to be done from North to South.
The trip, however, was not limited to taking note of what was going wrong on the road. There will be plenty of work for other ministries.
